The Sox are notorious for throwing bad money at old players. Recent acquisition James Shields just denied his opt-out clause to ensure the Sox will be overpaying for a fourth starter for a long time. He’s just the latest in a long list of players who end their careers laughing all the way to the bank at the expense of a dysfunctional organization.
The latest entity to take advantage of this band of idiots is not a player, but a corporation. Not only did Guaranteed Rate get an absolute steal in terms of what they’re paying for stadium naming rights, but they just gave Sox brass the middle finger when asked to get rid of the downward pointing arrow for the Guaranteed Rate Field logo. THIS IS SO PERFECT IT HURTS.
If this was a calculated move by Guaranteed Rate, their marketing team should be up for some type of award. The publicity this is getting has probably already paid for the first year of the sponsorship, at the expense of the team from the South Side. The White Sox are a clown organization. They just can’t help themselves. They have to put money into volatile investments that make the team look like a joke. I hate them.
