The Rams Aren’t Going to Judge Jeff Fisher on His Record, For Some Reason

If you take the quote exactly as it was said, it’s probably one of the more hilarious lines in the history of football. From NFL.com:

“”Everybody will want to judge Jeff through the prism of just the record, but that’s totally unfair when you look at the set of circumstances he was handed this year,” chief operating officer Kevin Demoff told me. “It was different than any team in the NFL.”

You’re right, his set of circumstances were different than every other team this year. He has a world class running back who he can’t figure out how to use, a defense that is loaded with talent but severely under performing, oh, and the number one overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Yup, definitely different circumstances. The quotes go on to talk about more excuses:

“The past two years, he’s had to deal with the specter of relocation. This year, the actual relocation. A couple of coaches have had to deal with the specter of relocation. No coach has had to deal with an actual relocation. You have try to understand what this team has been through and the success he has had.”

Poor Jeffy, having to think about the possibility of relocating. How could a head football coach in the NFL ever deal with rumors?!? And then the actual relocation, moving from America’s paradise, St. Louis, to the drubs of Los Angeles. Who wants that much good weather and beautiful people anyways? I can’t help but laugh as I re-read this shit. No coach has had to deal with an actual relocation, huh? I think that’s right, except for one guy semi-recently who held the reigns when the Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee to become the Titans. What was his name? James Fishman? No…Jim Fishhook? No that’s not it. By God, it was Jeff Fisher!

I just want to know how Fisher does this every single year. He is the best at milking mediocrity for all it’s worth. Wouldn’t it be great if your boss didn’t judge you based on the results? Didn’t meet the sales goal? No problem, here’s a raise. Missed a shift without calling in? It’s okay, you deserved the time off. What the hell do we have to do to get the leeway that Jeff Fisher gets? Tell us Jeff, TELL US!
