Kopech Threw a Training Ball 110 MPH on a Crow Hop, White Sox Internet Explodes

Everyone needs to chill out. Michael Kopech throws really hard, there’s no denying it. Recently, he hit 110 MPH on the gun and because someone on Twitter filmed it, it’s now a thing:

I understand the need for a headline grab, but maybe the media should call out that he didn’t just do this in a bullpen session. The most obvious aspect of why this is ridiculous is that he took a damn crow hop. The velocity increase usually isn’t that large from pitching motion to crow hop, but it baffles me why no one is even mentioning it.

The second thing to point out is that it’s clearly a training ball, likely one that weighs less than a normal baseball. A normal baseball weighs about 5 ounces. Since it’s January I’m going to guess he was throwing with a 3 or 4 ounce ball. This is why the internet is the worst. I’m going to be much more excited if he doesn’t need surgery in the next three years.
