As the game gets younger and younger and I get older and older I’m starting to realize I might not have what it takes to make it to the Major Leagues. It seems like every day there’s a new phenom waiting to take my rightful place in the bullpen of an MLB club as a lefty specialist. Hunter Greene is the new phenom we’ll be talking about today.
A little background. Hunter Greene is MLB.com’s number one draft prospect and is expected to go at or near the top of the draft. Hunter is 17 years old, born in 1999 so at least I can still say “us kids from the 90s” when comparing him to my abilities. He’s 6’4″ 205 pounds, so he has a slight height advantage on me. He also has a talent advantage, as he can throw 98 MPH and hit bombs.
The video below pretty much sums it up. In his debut this season he struck out seven in five innings of work and hit a grand slam while going 2-4 at the plate. Not bad.
He obviously also has his swag game down pat, as you can hear him shout “Oh yeah!” after he embarrasses the opposing pitcher. But I’m not saying this is enough to put him in the Hall of Fame, and I don’t think he is either. That’s why he released this video back in June to show us that he’s a freak athlete.

We all know that highlight tapes of you playing your sport well just doesn’t cut it anymore. Hunter is clearly ahead of the game and knows where his future is. And no, it’s not weird that I follow a teenager on Twitter.
As a player who will be entering the 2017 MLB Draft, I can say that this is a little disappointing to see. Hunter Greene is going to take up another spot which pushes the rest of us down the ladder. If I don’t get drafted this year (big if) at least I know who to blame.
