Sam Dyson has had a bit of a rough start to the season, blowing all three save chances he’s had. Now he’s taking his 0% save rate to the DL, according to ESPN:
According to manager Jeff Banister, Dyson was hurt while trying to field a comebacker in the ninth inning of Sunday’s 8-7 loss in Seattle. Dyson allowed two runs in the inning, despite not allowing a ball out of the infield, and suffered his third loss.
I’m sure his hand really does hurt but you can’t help but think the timing isn’t perfect. Now former jailbird Matt Bush will get a crack at the closing gig and if he does well will probably keep it for the remainder of the season. After all, not many things more intimidating than facing a guy who has a 98 MPH fastball and is fresh out of the clink for almost killing a guy.
We probably haven’t seen the last of Dyson as a close in the Majors because he’s had success previously, despite not having prototypical closer stuff. It’s a rough gig, especially considering in the grand scheme of things he’s just gotten unlucky that his three shitty performances were lined up one after another.
