Cubs are Dead, But You Shouldn’t Be Complaining

It’s the 4th inning, it’s a billion to nothing, I’ve switched to the Hawks, and the Cubs are dead. This is not what I expected this night to become, and not the way Cubs fans wanted the night to go.

While tonight sucks for you Cubs fans, take a look at the big picture. If you’re thinking about calling into a sports radio show tomorrow and venting about how your team screwed up, please drink some cyanide instead.

Don’t complain about Jose Quintana. You received arguably an ace-quality starter for a prospect who won’t be in the Majors for at least a year. He’s on your team for cheap and for a few more seasons. Yes, he’s probably a White Sox sleeper cell agent, but he’s still a great pitcher.

Don’t complain about the bullpen. Theo tried to make that group better before the regular season ended. Even he doesn’t push all the right buttons every time. Putting together a World Series bullpen requires some luck, and they got none.

Don’t complain about the hitting. The postseason is a crapshoot, and your players might go cold at the exact wrong time. This is out of anyone’s control and unpredictable. It doesn’t mean Theo should be fielding trade offers for Kris Bryant.

Don’t complain about your team not winning the World Series. You’ve made it to the NLCS three straight years with one Championship in the bank. That’s hard as shit to do. Theo never promised a World Series title. He promised numerous bites at the apple, which is all you can really plan for in the MLB.

Losing sucks. I get it. But you can be pissed about losing without being an assbag. This year the spin of the wheel didn’t land on the Cubs. And it shouldn’t have, they weren’t as good as they were last year. But at least they got that spin and are going to continue to have spins every year for the foreseeable future.
